The wind does what it wants
The unpredictable North Sea once again proved to be a challenge this Wednesday for this year’s sailors at the Citroën Windsurf World Cup Sylt.
After the freestylers were finally able to start their competition early in the morning, it was already over again after the first heats. The difficult and constantly changing wind conditions made it hard for the pros to land their tricks and, by midday, it became impossible to continue on the water. The slalom riders, however, who need less wind, took over in the afternoon and once again delivered spectacular racing in front of Brandenburger Strand. Unfortunately, from a German perspective, there were no further final appearances for Nico Prien, Michele Becker, or Fabian Wolf. Johan Soe and Justine Lemeteyer continue to lead by a wide margin and, after competition day 3, are already eyeing the World Cup title.
On the promenade and at the stands, there was—as on every day—great and cheerful atmosphere with bright sunshine and slightly milder temperatures. Even if the sport doesn’t always deliver top-level entertainment, the many exhibitors, partner activations, and program highlights make up for it even more.
For tomorrow, Friday, the freestylers will once again be ready to go from 8:30 a.m., hoping to crown a winner—and at the same time a world champion—here on Sylt.
